He came to Hockenheim last-minute, but was immediately at the top and took an authoritative pole this morning: local hero Marvin Kirchhöfer has been impressive in his GT Open debut. The German was called to replace Miguel Ramos at Garage 59 and is driving the second McLaren 720S of the British squad together with Tom Fleming. After being fastest in free practice, he topped the rankings throughout the qualifying session stopping the clock in 1.37.197. “Everything has been working perfectly since my late arrival here”, he reckoned. “It is true I know the track very well but haven’t been racing at Hockenheim recently.”
The qualifying session took place on a dry track after the morning drizzle and ended with 11 cars within a second and four different car brands in the top five.
Sharing first row in Race 1 will be the GetSpeed Mercedes of Fabian Schiller (+0s240), while in second row will be Dominik Baumann (SPS Mercedes, +0s493) and the Saintéloc Audi of Marcus Paverud (+0s522). In third row the Elite Ferrari of Tom Lebbon (+0s606) and the Greystone GT McLaren of Dean Macdonald (+0s652).
Michele Rugolo (AF Corse Ferrari) was fastest in Am and 14th overall.
