It was a wet qualifying session ahead of Race 2 this morning at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. After three days of very warm weather, storms broke early in the morning. The rain diminished by the time the GT Open cars got in action, but the track was very wet, especially in turn 11, where most ‘skating figures’ happened. The session had to be red-flagged halfway when Cairoli (Motopark Mercedes) and Macdonald (Greystone McLaren) went off-track. Later in the session, Vos (Motopark Mercedes) was also surprised. Luckily, no cars involved suffered damage.
In these particular conditions, Christopher Haase took pole position in the Eastalent Racing Audi. The German posted a lap time of 1.54.948, and stated: “The track was wet but still very grippy, and I could do a decent time. I thought grip would improve, but it was just the opposite. It’s going to be an interesting race. The championship is still very open, but we take things race by race.”
Sharing first row will be the SPS Mercedes of Dominik Baumann (+0s178), the current Pro-Am leader. In second row will be the AF Corse Ferrari of Tommaso Mosca (+0s517) and the GetSpeed Mercedes of Ralf Aron (+0s778), while from row 3 will start the 2Seas Mercedes of McKenzy Cresswell (+1s015) and the Motopark Mercedes of points leader Levente Révész (+1s185).
Charlie Hollings, in the Garage 59 McLaren, took the pole in Am.
